2024 Jaggar Community Fellows Program

Purpose

The Jaggar Community Fellows Program is a competitive, and often life-changing, paid summer internship for nongraduating students (freshmen through graduate students). The program is open to all majors and provides students with an opportunity to gain valuable experience in the nonprofit sector.

Past nonprofit employers have included: American Red Cross, Northwell Health, Center for Science Teaching and Learning, Make A Wish, NYU Winthrop, Cradle of Aviation and Children's Museum, American Cancer Society, Huntington Arts Council, National Urban League, Island Harvest, New York Cares, and over 100 more.

Locations are in New York City, Brooklyn, Queens, and Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Structure

The program will be administered by the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD).

Selection Criteria

  1. Minimum 3.0 GPA
  2. Write a good cover letter!
  3. Have a record of volunteer/community service and/or previous internship activity
  4. Show a desire for professional development (e.g., IPS, LCP, etc.)
  5. Have the recommendation of at least one Adelphi professor or administrator

Stipend

Undergraduates: The proposed stipend is $18/hour, for both Long Island and New York City, to be paid out at no more than 30 hours per week for 10 weeks.

Graduates: The proposed stipend is at least $20/hour, for both Long Island and New York City, to be paid out at no more than 30 hours per week for 10 weeks.

You will be able to vary and confirm the hours per week and final end dates with your employer if selected.

Community-Based Organizations

The CCPD will propose a list of pre-screened and vetted NPOs listed in Handshake from which selected students may choose their desired internship.
